Martha was born in Francis, Utah, to Marion L. and Martha Ellen Woolstenhulme Corbett. She received her education in Kamas, Utah. She married James(Jim or Lew)Llewelyn Atkinson on June 14, 1917, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Following her marriage, they made their home in Francis for 25 years. Jim died unexpectedly in February 1942 while pitching a wagon load of hay. After her husband's death, she moved to Emmett, Idaho, and received her nurse's training. She worked at the Emmett Hospital. In 1949, she moved to Provo and worked at Utah Valley Hospital. She also worked for several nursing homes in the area. Upon her retirement from nursing, she worked on the foster grandparent program until age 85 and at the elementary school at the Utah State Hospital for 15 years. She was an active member of the LDS Church and worked in all the organizations, serving as Relief Society president and a teacher. She had 9 children, 6 sons, 3 daughters; Reed, Don, Fay, Gene, Arden, Alene (Ilene), Kendell, Verna and Carma. She is survived by 4 sons and 2 daughters; Reed Atkinson of Francis, Utah; Gene Atksinson of Emmett, Idaho; Arden Atkinson of Parma, Idaho; Kendell Atkinson of Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Norman (Ilene) Rich of Springville, Utah; Mrs. Robert (Carma) Marshall of Jacksonville, Oregon; 32 grandchildren; 64 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; 3 sisters; Thora Page; Rada(twin)Atkinson both of Emmett,Idaho; and Reva(twin)Anderson of Logan, Utah. She was preceeded in death by her husband, James L. Atkinson; a daughter, Verna Woodland, a son, Fay Atkinson, and an infant son, Don. Martha died at age 94, in Provo, Utah at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, of natural causes. Services were held at Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 E, Center St., Provo, Utah. Burial was at the Francis Cemetery in Francis, Utah.
