Leota Lois Mingus

Leota Lois Mingus, daughter of Fred Keeler and Martha (McCormack) Keeler was born March 3, 1918 near Marshfield, Mo.

After a long and happy life, she passed away at 3:40 p.m. Sunday, April 11, 2010 in Glenwood Healthcare in Seymour, at the age of 92 years, 1 month, and 8 days, surrounded by her loving family.

Leota was married to John Pose Mingus on June 17, 1939. They were married 40 years before his passing on October 1979 and made their life on a farm near Hartville, Mo. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church until moving to Seymour where she faithfully attended Seymour First Baptist Church.

Leota was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, four sisters, and an infant sibling.

She is survived by her four children, Mary and Jim Vaughn of Springfield, Mo., John and Glenda Mingus and Jack and Marilyn Mingus all of Seymour, Jim and Penny Mingus of Rogersville, Mo. Leota also leaves behind one brother Vaughn Keeler and wife Wanda, and one sister Virgie Daniels, all of Marshfield, Mo. She is survived by eleven loving grandchildren, Rick, Ronnie and Ellen and Mark Vaughn, Alan Mingus, Doug and Amanda Helms, Jeff and Julie Mingus, Julie and Matt Ervin, Jeff and Julie Sell, Jade and Jason Poe, Jordan Mingus and Brianna Mingus. Nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by sisters-in-law: Fern Keeler, Leota Keeler, Edith Keeler, and Ina Keeler and brother in law, Claude Mingus. Leota was affectionately known as "Grandma Odie" throughout the community. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

"Grandma Odie" was always quick to greet you with a hug and never met a stranger.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2010 in the Seymour First Baptist Church with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery, northeast of Seymour. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the Seymour Hunger Challenge Grant in care of the funeral home at PO Box 366, Seymour, Missouri 65746. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holman- Howe Funeral Home of Seymour.They were married Jun 17, 1939, in Marshfield, Webster, Missouri. They had 5 children: Mary Frances, John W., Jack D., Nora Hester, and James P.
