Merri L. Melkowski, 54, Kansas City, formerly of St. Joseph, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at her residence after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born September 1, 1955, in St. Joseph to Eugene C. Stufflebean and Ruth I. (Giles) Smith, she graduated from Lafayette High School in 1973.
Merri married Anthony C. Melkowski on August 10, 1985; he survives of the home.
She was a PT Access ER Registrar at St. Mary's Medical Center in Blue Springs, Mo.
She loved camping, trout fishing, ceramics, jewelry making, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, and will be deeply missed.
Merri was preceded in death by her parents.
Additional survivors: children, Brandi Keesler and Steve Keesler, both of St. Joseph; six grandchildren, Kilsi, Darian, Makayla, Cody, Cora, Chloe; sister, Darla Shepard; step father, Tom Smith; aunt and uncle, Darlyn and Harold Clark; stepsister, Kathleen Pence; stepbrother, Michael Smith; cousin, Nan Sauter; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory, where friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Kansas City Hospice.
