Rae Rhodes, 75, of Burlington, died at 1:58 P.M. Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.


Born May 4, 1930, in Sioux City, Iowa, she was the daughter of Ray Gildersleeve and Maude Elma Daley Rhodes.


Miss Rhodes was a Spanish instructor for 36 years. She taught at George,Iowa High School, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota High School, and Burlington High School (1967-1989)


She was a graduate of Washington High School, Westminister College in Salt Lake City, Utah, the University of South Dakota (where she received her BA), and the University of Wisconsin (where she received her MA). She pursued further study at Mexico City College, LSU, and the University of AZ (Guadalajara). She also studied in Spain, Columbia, and Argentina. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church (Altar Guild, Vestry Member, Angel Guild, Choir, ECW). UNA/USA, Alpha Phi Sorority, Phi Beta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gama Society, Art Guild, Friends of SE Iowa Symphony, Friends of the Library, and the Book Club. She loved to travel, read, play bridge, attend concerts and plays and spend time with friends and family.


She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Roger Daley Rhodes; and her stepmother Marie Rhoides.


There will be no formal visitation, as per wishes her body has been cremated.


Rev. Canon Patrick Genereux will officiate. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at a later date.


Memorials have been established for Christ Episcopal Church and the Burlington Education Foundation (Scholarship).
