The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2016, at Mt. Herman United Methodist Church with Reverend Walt Christian officiating. Interment will follow in the Nelson Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Nelson was born December 22, 1927, in Stokes County, to the late John W. Carter and Erna Sands Carter.
She was retired from Ingram Vending, a past employee of Washington Mills and Burlington Industries and a member of Mt. Herman United Methodist Church.
Her greatest passions were her family and cooking.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Wade Warner Nelson; brothers, Rufus and Paul Junior Carter; and sisters, Bessie Lawson and Marie Newman.
Survivors include daughter, Peggy Ann Nelson Gann (Ed); son, Robert “Bruce” Nelson; four grandchildren, Barry Amos, Marie Amos Satterfield (Brian), Nicole Miller Barham (David), Heather Nelson; seven great-grandchildren, Chanler Amos, Matthew, Chasity and Hunter Satterfield, Kaitlyn and Natalie Barham, Annabelle Whitaker; two step great-grandchildren, Christopher and Felicity Gann and sister, Pauline "Polly" Carter Nelson.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Saturday, at Colonial Funeral Home and all other times at the home.
