Rufus was born to John Sisler and Mary Bowers somewhere in Ohio. Place has not been found yet. He was the third child of seven born to this union. In the 1860 and 1870 census this family was in Des Moines County, IA. Rufus married Sidney JAMES 10 Oct 1875 in Keokuk County, IA. George William born 1876 and John Wesley in 1878 in Keokuk county. By 1880 they were in Madison County, IA where Trillie Roamia was born 1880 and my grandmother Lydia Ann was born 23 Jun 1881. Both Lida Lavina 1884 and Marion Emanuel 1886, were born in Jefferson City, Cole, MO. The family moved back to IA then where Ethel Winifred born 1888 and Mary Lennie 1890; The next child was born back in MO and in 1898 Emmitt Earl was born in Indian Territory. [Now Oklahoma]
Rufus was a farmer. They lived around Depew, Stroud and Chandler, in Crawford, AR, Tulsa and then Claremore. With the threat of WWII he chose to take his family to AR hoping to keep the sons out of the war. It did not. Some of his sons had to go anyway. His wife Sidney James SISLER died 17 Jan 1917 in Crawford County AR. She is buried in the Freedom Cemetery, Upper township, Crawford County, AR. The stone is no longer there as of 1985 when I was there checking. After Sidney died Rufus returned to OK. Rufus was living with his youngest son on a farm close to Claremore when he died 30 Jul 1933 and he is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore, Rogers, OK.
