Melvina Slutts was the only daughter of Charles Alexander Slutts and Margaret Plowman. She was born near Village Township, Van Buren County Iowa.
At the age of 19, she was united in Marriage to Elza Brown, who was already the father to four children, and to this union, six more children were born.
Her mother and younger brother both passed away in 1892, her mother in December just after her marriage, and her brother around the same time.
Melvina followed her children to California, her son Charles brought her and her two youngest daughters, Ethel and Gladys.
In 1916 she was united in marriage with Richard Carr, there were no children of this second marriage.
Melvina passed away on August 5, 1951 in Pomona, Los Angeles, California. She was preceded in death by her father, Mother, Brother and first husband.
