Mr. Engelke died Tuesday, April 6, in a Temple hospital.
He was born on Sept. 12, 1932, to August Gene and Ella Krumnow Engelke in Houston. He moved to Temple at a young age and was a 1950 graduate of Temple High School. On Nov. 4, 1953, he married Alice Birchall.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for 27 years and was stationed around the world: including Offut, Dyess, Carswell, Nellis and Lackland Air Force Bases. He retired in 1977, as Chief Master Sgt. He served in a variety of community and church-related leadership positions, including the Knights of Columbus- serving as Grand Knight and Faithful Navigator. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2006.
Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Mann of Temple and Donna Dees Forney of Belton; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church CYM Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday at the church.
A rosary will begin at 7:30 p.m.
