He married Lancaster County-born Elizabeth Adair (Holt reported in one child's death certificate) and fathered Susan (b. @1867), Pierre C. (b. 07/24/69), Clara May (b. 02/16/72 - married Wesley K. Hildebrand), Alice M. (b. 06/13/74), David C. (b. 04/15/76), Thomas (b. 09/10/76), and Barton (b. 1880). In 1890, he lived in York Township, York County, but died in York Borough from "nephritis - chronic interstitial" with "myocarditis - chronic" a contributing factor.
