Delmar Archer, Executive Of Local 724, Dies Tuesday

Delmar W. Archer, 51, of 987 Hazel-av, vice-president of the production workers union at Westinghouse Electric Corp., was injured fatally and two others were hurt when the automobile in which they were riding and a truck sideswiped on U. S. Route 30-S one and one half miles west of Lima at 1:30 a. m. Tuesday.

Archer received probable skull and neck fractures, according to attaches of St. Rita's hospital where he was admitted and died at 2:30 a. m.

Joseph Kraft, 43, of Spencerville Route 1, is in St. Rita's hospital with possible rib fractures and his condition was reported as good.

Jay Johns, 40, of Elida, was treated at the hospital for facial lacerations and abrasions and returned to his home.

The car owned by Kraft in which Kraft, Johns and Archer were riding, sideswiped a truck driven by Howard Specht, 38, of Middletown, who was uninjured according to state highway patrolmen who investigated. The Kraft car was enroute west and the truck east when the accident occurred, the patrolmen stated.

Archer was vice-president of Local 724, United Radio, Electrical and Machine Workers of America, CIO, at Westinghouse. He was born March 3, 1894, in Kenton, but had lived in Lima 23 years.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; one daughter, Norma; his mother, Mrs. Susie Archer of Kenton; one brother, Everett of Columbus; three sisters, Mrs. Alva Gossard of Alger, Mrs. Nick Omert and Mrs. Frank Oats of Kenton, and one grandchild.

The body was removed to the Chiles and Son funeral home pending arrangements for the funeral.

Harry Lewis, Allen-co coroner, was investigating the accident Tuesday but had not returned a verdict.
