From the The (Grapeland) Messenger, Feb. 14, 1918:

L.Q. Browning died Sunday night, February 10, 1918, at the home of his sister, Mrs. J.C. Green, a few miles east of Grapeland. He had been sick with pneumonia for several weeks. He was born in Georgia February 3, 1854, and was 64 years of age. He came to Texas in 1878, and had lived in this community many years. He was married twice, but both of his wives are dead. He united in the Christian church in 1917. He is survived by four children: Miss Willie Browning of this city, Mesdames John B. King and Arthur Pryor of Palestine, and Mrs. J.H. Wall of Arkansas. All of his children were with him during his last hours.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church Monday afternoon by Rev. B.C. Ansley. Interment followed in the city cemetery. A large crowd of friends and relatives were in attendance at the funeral. The Grapeland public school was dismissed and the students attended in a body.

Mr. Browning had many close friends in this community, all of whom will join the Messenger in extending sincere sympathy to his bereaved children.
