In the late spring of 1919 he he contracted rheumatic fever, apparently due to diseased tonsils. For several weeks he was confined to the house and died of a sudden and total cardiac arrest the morning of July 11, 1919, at the young age of 10.

Bozeman, July 13 - Peter Verwolf, the 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Verwolf, died at the farm home of his parents near Amsterdam, northwest of Bozeman, from leakage of the heart. Funeral services will be held Monday, probably in the Holland church, and interment will be in the Holland settlement.
