Born in Sideling Hill, Fulton or Huntingdon Co., Pennsylvania to Thomas G. & Henrietta (Sprowl) Gracey. Married to Hannah Jane (Bratton) Gracey on 22 Feb 1887, they had eight children; Charles R., Ida Estella "Stella", Gladys June, Addie M., Nelly B., William J., Martha, Alton R. and Louise Virginia Gracey.
Samuel & Hannah (Bratton) Gracey's family bible is in the posession of his gr. gr. grandson Rex W. Tennant.

"Samuel Chambers Gracey, a highly respected resident of Mt. Union, passed away at this home on Friday morning, June 23, 1939, at 3:30 o'clock. Mr. Gracey had been in failing health the past year, however had been bedfast only since Saturday.

He was born at Sideling Hill, Wells Twp., Fulton County, Oct. 4, 1862, and was the son of Thomas and Henrietta (Sprowl) Gracey, both deceased. At the time of his death he was a76 years, 8 months, and 19 days. Mr. Gracey united in marriage with Hannah J. Bratton, Dublin Mills, on Fec. 22, 1887.

After teaching school several years during his early life, Mr. Gracey entered the mercantile business in Dublin Mills, later coming to Gracey where he became postmaster, serving from (illegible) to 1912. He had also served as County Commissioner in Fulton County from 1906 until (illegible). He had been a Justice of the Peace several years in Taylor Twp., in addition to serving faithfully a number of other county offices. He was prominent in Democratic politics. He moved to Mt. Union in April 1912, and entered the mercantile business. He was also employed by the various brick works in the vicinity of Mt. Union. He was a highly respected citizen and a good neighbor.

He was a faithful member of the Mt. Union Methodist Church and of the Brotherhood Bible Class. He was active in Christian work and took a keen interest in the work of the Church.

Mr. Gracey was a member of IOOF Lodge #773 of Waterfall.

Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife, Mrs. Hannah Gracey of Mt. Union and these children: C. Russell of Mt. Union, Gladys, wife of Carson W. Jones of Mt. Union, Estella, wife of Fred L. Tennant of Chester, Addie, wife of William D. Lane of Myerstown, Nellie, wife of Frank E. Yeager of Akron, OH, W.J. Bryan of Dallas, TX, Alton of Cleveland, OH, and Louise, wife of Henry Larson of Youngstown, OH. Two brothers and one sister: Robert R. of Glenside, John L. of Three Springs, and Mrs. Ida Alloway of New Grenada, and 9 grandchildren also survive.

Short prayer services were held at the Gracey home in Mt. Union on Sunday afternoon at 1:15 0'clock with further services at the Center Methodist Church in Fulton County at 3:00 o'clock with the Rev. W. W. Willard, pastor of the Methodist Church of Mt. Union officiating. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.
