Mary was born and spent her early years in Little Brook, Nova Scotia. Around 1895 or 1896, the large family moved to Haverhill MA, where there was ample work in the mills there and a large French-Canadian presence in that city.
Mary married Joseph on January 15, 1900 in that city, and they lived, variously, in Haverhill and Newburyport MA, then in Derry and Salem NH. There was even a short stint in Stockton CA. But Salem was their home.
Mary bore five children, three of whom lived to adulthood.
