John Thomas Poe was the son of John Thomas I and Pheby Ashcraft Poe. He was born in Fayette Co., AL and lived there most of his life. He married Martha Ann Hopson, daughter of Edmond & Mariah Papizan Hopson.

He served as a Confederate Soldier with the 41st Alabama Infantry Regiment Co. G.

John Thomas was only about 37 years old when he died and this caused great hardship on Martha. She struggled to raise their family of five children; John Carroll, Amanda E, Phoebe M, D.A., Dena C Poe.

Martha was able to draw John Thomas' pension which added to her small income.
