GREENSBORO, NC — Captain Linsey Simpson Ashley, 85, died on Friday, March 26, 2010, surrounded by his family and caregivers in the peace and comfort of his home.

He passed away just 30 minutes after his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Crossen Ashley.

Captain Ashley was born in Long Beach, CA, and was the son of Commander Charles Linsey Ashley and Mrs. Lucille Simpson Ashley.

He was a member of the class of 1946 at the US Naval Academy and pursued graduate studies at MIT. After beginning his 30-year Naval career as a Surface Warfare Officer and receiving the Bronze Star for valor during the invasion of Inchon in the Korean War, Captain Ashley served as a Naval Engineering Officer and Assistant Inspector General and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. His life as a Naval captain and son of a Naval commander led him to Bremerton, WA; Fargo, ND; Peoria, IL; Sioux City, IA; Chicago, IL; Saint Louis, MO; Boston, MA; San Diego, CA; Pearl Harbor, HI; Charleston, SC; Norfolk, VA; McLean, VA; and finally to Greensboro.

His family includes daughter Lucy Ashley Mischen (Stephen) of Greensboro; granddaughter Virginia Mischen-Hays (Dr Ryan Hays) of Princeton, NJ, grandson Dr. Byron Mischen (Dr. Susan Marcelli) of Belleair, FL; and great-granddaughters Calla, Reese, and Spencer Mischen of Belleair, FL; son Robert Linsey Ashley, who predeceased him; son Jeffrey Crossen Ashley of Virginia and grandchildren Amy and Steven Ashley of Virginia; brother Cdr. Roger Ashley (Joan) of Franklin, WV; and members of his extended family.

Private memorial services are planned for a later date in Arlington, VA, Frankfort, MI, and Charleston, SC.
