While living in Golden Eugene leased and operated the Racik Flour Mill, located at 9th and Cheyenne Streets. Later he and Maggie moved to Seattle, Washington, where they lived for two years before returning to Colorado. For a time Eugene owned a mill at Idalia, Colorado, before returning to Jefferson Co. to live. He also built the Arvada Flour Mill and operated it until his death. He also served as mayor pro-tem of the city of Arvada for a number of years and was vice-president of the First National Bank of Arvada at the time of his death.
