Darlena Mae Hargett, 83, of La Grande, died April 1 at a local care center. A celebration of life will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. Burial will follow at Island City Cemetery.

She was born Feb. 27, 1927, to Orien Monroe and Gladys Ethel (Baum) Amos in La Grande. She graduated from La Grande High School and on Aug. 17, 1946, she married Vern Hargett. She worked as a legal secretary for Bill Carey and later Steve Joseph. She was a member of the Soroptimist Club, the Legal Secretaries and was secretary for the Class of 1945 reunions. She enjoyed keeping her yard and flowers beautiful, crocheting, playing the piano and visiting her friends.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Laurie Hargett of Cove; three granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Oregon Cancer Society in care of Daniels-Knopp, 1502 Seventh St. in La Grande.
