He was born on July 26, 1913 in the town of Hutchins, Shawano County, the son of the late George and Lena (Arensten) Jersey.
He married Leone Zilch. She preceded him in death on July 26, 1974. Roy then married Hazel Kluckman. She survives.
Roy was a United States Navy Veteran serving during World War II and was also a member of the John Owen American Legion Post #287, Mattoon for 53 years.
He was employed by Rural Electric Association, Iola for 34 years and was also a deputy sheriff for Shawano County for 26 years. He was a member of the Mattoon Sportsmans Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. Roy especially enjoyed flying and received his pilots license in 1948.
In addition to his wife, Hazel, Roy is survived by eight children, Bob (Kim) Jersey, Appleton, Dale (Debbie) Jersey, Neenah, Barb (Jim DeNomie) Jersey, Harnsville, IL, Carol (Tom) Moffitt, Neenah, Raylene (Bill) Bartel, West Bend, Kermit Kundo, Phoenix, AZ, DeJon (David) LaMountain, Mosinee, Joreen (Arthur) Jaeger, Merrill; 30 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren and two special friends, Herbert Malchow, Antigo and Randy Grant, Mattoon.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Roy was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Monday, April 12, 2004 at the Mattoon Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Charlotte Bertram and Jim Scott will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Town of Hutchins, Shawano County with military rites conducted by the Mattoon American Legion. Friends may call on Sunday from 4PM to 8PM at the Schmidt Schulta Funeral Home, Birnamwood and again at the church on Monday from 10AM until the time of services.
