Rachel Americus McGimsey was the daughter of Joseph Alfonso McGimsey and Frances E. Collett. She was the eldest of a family of 13 children and was reared in Burke County.
Rachel married John Thomas Fleming and from this union they had seven children, three sons and four daughters.

Edward Alfonso Fleming b 1869 d 7-9-1936 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth, NC. He married Julia Susana McCarthy, born 1874 in Ireland. The children they had were:

Paul Jones Fleming b 7-23-1876 d 10-9-1926. Paul married Annie B Douglas on 5-23-1897 in Lincolnton, Lincoln Co, North Carolina.

Robert Bruce Fleming b 6-22-1879 d 1-31-1949 in Mooresville Iredell Co, North Carolina.

Clara Frances Fleming b 12-22-1877 d 10-30-1925. Clara married George Cleaver then married Lester Love Troutman.

Claudia Elizabeth Fleming b 7-26-1881 d 12-29-1963. Claudia married William Bruce McNeely.

Florence Mae Fleming b 6-5-1883 d 3-24-1967 in Charlotte, Mecklenbrg, NC. She married George Wilson Cleaver.

A Highly Esteemed Lady of Mooresville Passes away - Personals

Mooresville, April 12 - Mrs. Rachael Fleming, whose serious illness was noted in yesterday's correspondence, died that evening at 6 o'clock. She was in her 58th year of age. She was the eldest of a family of 13 children, one sister and a brother, who was killed in the war between the States in '61-'65, preceded her. Her maiden name was McGimsey. She was reared in Burke county Her mother is still living at the old homestead, aged 88 years. Mrs. Fleming leaves a husband and seven children - three sons and four daughters - all of whom were with her when death entered the household, except one son who lives in Chicago. The funeral will take place to-morrow from the Methodist church, of which she has been a consistent member from early childhood. The service will be conductd by her pastor, Rev. W. R. McGhee. The deceased leaves many prominent relatives in Lincoln and Burke counties.
