McLelland Rites Set MOORESVILLE - A memorial service for Dr. John Rockwell McLelland, 56, of 215 Heritage Place in Mooresville, was to be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Cavin Funeral Home, with Rev. S. Edwin Lewis officiating. Dr. Rockwell died Sunday morning at his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was born Dec. 27, 1920, in Kobenz, Germany.
He attended McCallie Military Academy and was a graduate of Davidson College and Jefferson Medical College. He served as a major with the U. S. Army in World War II, and had practiced medicine in Mooresville since 1957.
Surviving are his wife, the former Amelie von Heineccius; two brothers, Alex M. and William Davies McLelland, both of Atlanta, Ga.; and two sisters, Mrs. Peggy Messing of Reston, Va., and Mrs. Mary Williamson of Charlotte. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
