Boyd Ruff, 86, of Bedford, Va., passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Friday, May 4, 1923, in Bedford County, a son of the late Burks Lee Ruff and Bessie D. Craddock. He was a retired employee of Rubatex and was a member of Word of Life Evangelical Church. Surviving is his wife, Nancy Virginia Atkinson Ruff; three daughters, Teresa Ruff Whitworth, of Goode, Va., Lynn Ruff Witt and husband, Billy, of Bedford, and Jennifer Leigh Ruff Baldwin and husband, Terry, of Farmville; five grandchildren, Tanya Cooke, Christy Witt, Michelle Sims and Josh, William Witt, and Tasia Mitchell and husband, Keith; six greatgrandchildren, Matthew and Mark Whitworth, Morgan and Kaden Witt, and Madison and Alison Sims; two sisters, Erma R. Heck, of Bedford, and Ruth Mae Dooley, of Florida; and three half sisters, Lelia Phillips, Mildred Tuthill, and Elizabeth May, all of New Jersey. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider making a donation to Word of Life Evangelical Church, P.O. Box 1214, Bedford, Va. 24523. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, April 2, 2010, at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford with the Rev. David Whitehurst officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Friends may call on Thursday, April 1, 2010, after noon and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford, Va., 540-586-3304.
