Alvah E. "Don" Donnell Sr., 86, of West Paris, and formerly of Augusta, Pittston and Pownal, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010, at Ledgeview Assisted Living Center. He was born in Searsmont May 19, 1924, to Alvah and Pearl Fowles Donnell.
He faithfully served his country in the Army during World War II in the European Theater, 1942 to 1946. He retired after 25 years at Yorktown Paper Mill in Gardiner.
He is survived by his wife, Rowena Tripp Donnell, of West Paris; his brother, William Buckle, of West Gardiner; his four sons, Wilson and Alvah Jr., both of Pittston, John, of Palermo, and Hugh, of Atlanta; a daughter, Sharon Donnell, of Gardiner; two stepsons, Wayne Tripp, of Oxford, and Rodney Hall, of Lewiston; a stepdaughter, Faye Smith, of Oxford; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, and stepfather Wilson Buckle; five other siblings; his daughter, Sharkie Coombs, formerly of New York; a stepdaughter, Joanne Tripp, formerly of Lewiston; a stepson, Jerry Tripp, formerly of Lewiston; and Rodney Hall, formerly of Oxford.
He will be buried at Maine Veterans Cemetery in Augusta. (Kennebec Journal 3/30/2010)
