Carsten (Andy) Edwin Anderson, of Anacortes, Washington, passed away March 24, 2010 at the Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett.
He was born August 30, 1920 in Florence, Washington. He attended Stanwood High School and Pacific Lutheran University.
He served his country in WWII in the Army Air Corps, 451st Bombardier Group, and completed 25 missions as a pilot of the B-24 Liberator based out of southern Italy. He was discharged as a 2nd Lieutenant and returned to the U.S. to train other air cadets.
His flying career ended working for non-scheduled airlines, among them Axico Airlines, Saturn Airways and Trans America Airlines, transporting cargo and charter passengers worldwide. Included in his career was a stint with the U.S. Forestry Service in Ogden, Utah, as well as two seasons for the BLM in Boise, Idaho.
He married Jacqulyn Mathews May 12, 1960. They had two children: John David Anderson, of Kaysville, UT, and Susan J. Anderson, of Sammamish, WA.
Carsten (Andy) will be missed very much by his family who admired him for his generosity, his determination and strength, and his great example of emulating the simple life, which he thought was best. Indeed, he was a member of that group of men who were known as the "greatest generation."
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lillian Anderson; his parents: John P. Anderson and Jennie Ryan Anderson; and his two brothers, Henry Orville Anderson and John Alfred Anderson.
Viewing will be held Thursday, April 1, 2010, 9:00 am until the Chapel Service, 11:00 a.m. at Gilbertson Funeral Home, followed by a military graveside service, 12:00 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Cemetery.
