Ellis signed up in Dec. 1941 in Calif. He served with the 8th Air Force in Ipswich, England (64 miles NE of London). He was in the Military Police and also in Armament (loading machine guns and bombs on B17's, etc). He returned home on the "Queen Mary". He was discharged in 1945.
He was the son of Isaac N. Oliver and Maggie V. Ray. He worked as a welder by trade and was known as "Cotton" Oliver as he was a toehead as a child. He first married at the age of 21 to Mattie Eloise Cunningham in Seminole, OK. They had a total of 4 children of which only two lived. Several years later he married Florene Isabel Ridley.
