Mercelle Farr Atkinson, 86, of Pleasant Grove returned home to the loving arms of her Savior, and her sweetheart Thelbert C. Atkinson, on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001 of natural causes.
She was born to Heber E. and Amanda Elizabeth Williams Farr on June 26, 1915 in Binghamton, Arizona, one of 24 siblings.
She married Thelbert on July 2, 1937 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He passed away in 1990. Mercelle grew up in Binghamton and later moved to Pleasant Grove with her family where she completed her education. She later graduated from Salt Lake Beauty College. During World War II she was awarded the Minute Man award for her service at the naval base in Clearfield. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings: Relief Society president, Primary president, and many other capacities. Mercelle enjoyed quilting, crocheting, sewing, painting, and all crafts. Her greatest love was caring for and loving her family, she is deeply loved and will be missed by all.
She is survived by three children: Arlen (Patricia) Atkinson, West Valley City; Duane (Judy) Atkinson, Pleasant Grove, Jana (Eric) VanBrakel, Ameri-can Fork; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and a great great-grandson. Additional survivors include her brother, Oswald and five sisters, Maybelle, Winifred, Azona, Nadine, and Yvonne. She was preceded in death by her great granddaughter, Kylee.
Funeral services will be held Sat., Dec. 1, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Stake Center, 275 E. 500 So., Pleasant Grove. Friends may call at the Stake Center Fri. evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Sat. one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
