pub in the Cedar Rapids, IS, Gazette on Monday May 28, 1906 - DEATH OF SHELLSBURG PIONEER - Shellsburg, IA, May 28th - Jacob Coleman Straight was born in Banacksville (sic) WV on Sep 3, 1863 and died in Shellsburg, IA on May 15, 1906, aged 69yrs. He was married at Banacksville (sic) on Dec 20, 1860 to Miss Margaret Elizabeth Trainer. To this union were born 3 children, A. L. Straight of this place, Mrs E. A. Burdick and Blanche Straight of Cedar Rapids. He came to Shellsburg on Nov 1, 1874. Mr Straight was a man of clear convictions and of absolute fearlessness in declaring the same. Bravely, patiently, heroically, the man battled for life, without really knowing his enemy, suffering constantly yet doing his best to meet the demants of duty to his family he loved so well. When he knew his time had come he left the blessed assurance behind that God had received him. He read the blessed word of God and determined to enjoy one of the mansions prepared by the blessed saviour. He is survived by his wife, one son, 2 daughters and 2 aged brothers. The funeral services were held at the home conducted by Rev Carson of the M.E. church assisted by J.W. Thompson. Interment at Evergreen (sic) cemetery.
