She was the fourth of five children born to Clarence Michael CAPLE and Maud BOND Caple.
She was married to Henry D. CALDWELL on December 31st, 1921, in Hobart, OK. Ona's only child was Hilma Dee who was born in 1923.
After she and Henry were divorced Ona was married to Charles "Tut" Thurston LEE, in Norman, OK.
During the depression Aunt Ona worked at two jobs in order to support several members of her family. One of her jobs was the operation of a Lind type machine at Beacon Press in Cordell, Oklahoma.
I remember many things about my Aunt Ona. She was a professional knitter who owned a knitting shop in Garden Grove, CA, for many years. I used to love going there with my mother and looking at all the wonderful things that were available in her store. Mostly I loved wandering around the "back room" between the rows of storage racks seeing what else I could discover there. I remember that Aunt Ona made the best Christmas fudge ever. And I remember playing in her backyard with my brother while the adults "talked" in the house, mostly telling each other jokes that children shouldn't hear. She had the best kumquat tree out there and we used to pig out until we had belly aches. Mostly I remember her sweet smile and her twinkling eyes.
Aunt Ona died at the age of 69 from colon cancer. At the time my mother and I were both working in the convalescent hospital where she was staying. We got to visit with her a lot which was a blessing.
Rest in peace dear Aunt Ona. I will never forget you.
