SPRINGFIELD - Linda Shadid Naufel, 93, of Springfield went home to the Lord at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010.

She was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Syed and Samia Wehba Shadid. She married George Naufel on March 7, 1946; he preceded her in death on May 17, 1971.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Mitchell, John and William Shadid; and two sisters, Ann Herro and Gladys Walton.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan Hines (companion, Jon Crusius) of Springfield; a son, Gary L. (Virginia "Ginny") Naufel of Pawnee; four grandchildren, Garrett (Brenna) Naufel of Columbia, Mo., Shelley (Bobby) Emmert of Macomb, George N. (Kathy) Hines of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Kimberly (Brian) Drewes of Springfield; three great-grandchildren,

Noah, Matthew and Delaney Drewes; three sisters, Dorothy (Carl) Bahre of Sherman, Jenny Kuykendall of Springfield and Barbara Ward of Valdosta, Ga.; two brothers, Woodrow (Cris) Shadid of Springfield and Phillip (Betty) Shadid of Sherman; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Linda was a lifelong resident of Springfield.

She worked in sales at Shadid's Bookmart from 1971 to 1983 before retiring.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 29, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Little Flower School.
