He was born August 29, 1899 in the town of Larrabee, the son of the late George and Margaret "Margie" (Bumhauer) Long.
On October 14, 1922 Joseph was united in marriage to Louise Leiskau in Menominee. She survives.
In addition to his wife, survivors include six foster children, Dorothy Hargette, Mrs. Vernon Schneider, Elizabeth Magewski, Ardith Adkins, Mrs. Edward Malueg and Dorothy Miller; four brothers, John Long, Chancie (Viola) Long, Howard Long and Russell Long; and two sisters, Myrtle (Edward) Aggen and Bernice Stroud.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers, including Harry Long.
Funeral services were held June 9, 1969 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. M.J. Haleen officiated. Interment was in Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg.
