He was born November 27, 1891 in the town of Larabee, Waupaca County, the son of the late George and Margaret (Bumhauer) Long.
On February 27, 1914 John was united in marriage to Lydia Siebert in Wittenberg. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1964.
Survivors include two sons, Harold (Adeline) and Arlye, all of Wittenberg; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bernice (William) Rosenow, Gresham.
In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by eight brothers, including Chancie, Harry, Joe, Russell and Howard and three sisters, including Myrtle Aggen.
Funeral services were held September 8, 1978 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. R.C. Reinholtzen officiated. Interment was in Forest Home Cemetery, Wittenberg.
