Theressa Hildebrandt was born on Oct. 28, 1868 in Golum, Russia. She came to America with her parents in 1880 at the age of thirteen years. Her parents settled on a farm in Hutchinson County, South Dakota. On Apr. 2, 1882, she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Evangelical Lutheran Church at Hutchinson County, South Dakota.

In 1890, she was united in marriage to Carl Hauf. This union was blessed with 10 children.

Theressa spent most of her life as a resident of South Dakota in Tripp County, but also lived a few years at Naper, Nebraska.

Theressa passed away three days short of her 89th birthday. She would have attained that age on the day of her burial.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, who died in 1933; a baby daughter who died shortly after birth; a son, Gahardt, who died in 1937; and a daughter, Louise Hauf Whittington in 1951.

Theressa is survived by 7 daughters, Anna (Nelson) Rash of Ainsworth, Neb., Emma (Fred) Fitzner of Hot Springs, S. Dak., Otilla (Clifford) Rutherford of Denver, Col., Helen (William) Cutler of Mesa, Az., Hulda (John) Adams, Edith (Ralph) Dykeman and Martha (Robert) Mawhinney, all of Colome, S. Dak. Also survived by two sons, Ed Hauf of Winner, S. Dak., and Albert Hauf of Sacramento, Calif. She is survived by one sister, Mathilda (John) Stahlecker of Jamison, Neb., 40 grandchildren, 90 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
