The funeral for Walter G. "Buddy" Biggerstaff, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McConnell Funeral Home with Bro. Robert Fudge officiating. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.


Mr. Biggerstaff died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 3, 1924, in Limestone County to Turner and Nina Street Biggerstaff.


He was a barber in Athens for more than 55 years. He served in the Army in Panama during World War II. He was a member of the Church of Christ.


He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Funderburk; a brother, James Biggerstaff; and a nephew, Jason Biggerstaff.


Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rebecca Broadway Biggerstaff of Athens; four daughters, Elaine Logan and husband Jack of Gardendale, Edith Vaught and husband Tommy of Montgomery, Barbara Chapman and husband Don of Decatur, and Frances Vinsant and husband Gary of Maryville, Tenn.; granddaughter, Stephanie Helms and husband Spence of Huntsville; grandson, Walt Smith of Decatur; great-granddaughter, Madelyn Smith of Florence; three sisters, Irene Holland of Athens, Rachel Broadway of Clinton, Tenn., and Sarah Walton of Sacramento, Calif.


Nephews will be pallbearers and nieces will be honorary pallbearers.
