Eliza Jane Hill and Alphonso Webster Stanard traveled west on the Oregon Trail from Iowa in 1852. They married on December 30, 1852 at the home of the bride. They had a daughter, Melissa J. Stanard, born 24 Aug 1854, who died 6 Jan 1868 and is buried in this cemetery. Since Eliza Jane died a month after giving birth to her daughter, it is probable that she died as a result of childbirth.
