Surrounded by those she loved, longtime Alaskan Sally Klinger, 75, died March 7, 2008, at home in Anchorage. Her family wrote that she has gone to be with the Lord.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Witzleben Family Funeral Home. A funeral will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Muldoon Road Baptist Church.

Sally Harry was born Nov. 8, 1932, in Gladewater, Texas, to Alice Harry and Ernest Harry. She grew up on a cotton farm in West Texas, driving tractors and helping out at the family store. She graduated from Lubbock High School and attended Texas Tech University.

In 1951, she was swept off her feet by a handsome Air Force airman who married her and took her around the world until they made Alaska their home in 1969. Steadfast in Christian faith, Sally was a devoted member of Muldoon Road Baptist Church. She was tireless in service, working in Vacation Bible School, serving on committees and providing hospitality to summer missionaries. Until the week of her death, the church prayer line rang in her home during the middle of the night, and Sally was ready to listen and to pray for any need at any hour.

An ardent quilter and needle artist, Sally always had projects in progress, and many of her projects became gifts. "Sally was an avid homemaker and hostess," her family recalled. "Nothing delighted her more than cooking for a crowd -- grandchildren, members of her church family, quilting friends or anyone else hungry for a home-cooked meal. To her last breath, her home rang with love of friends and family."

Sally Klinger was predeceased by her husband and the love of her life, John J. Klinger, and daughter, Jennifer Klinger. She is survived by daughters LaJuana Decker of Oregon, MeLinda Klinger of Utah, and Amy Lindsey of Anchorage; son, Jay Klinger of Anchorage; sisters, Carol Barrett and Betty Taylor of Texas; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Sally's memory to Providence Hospice, the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
