Son of Dr. James Buchanan "Buck" Chastain, MD and Laura A. Betts Chastain. Nicknamed "Tex". Married Nina Bernice Peters in Broken Bow OK 27 December 1924. Lived in Lincoln, NE most of his life, operating a Phillips 66 Station at 13th & F Sts for many years. Siblings: Ola, Osa "Jack", Forest, Lillian, Lester, Luther. Three sons: William (1928), James (1931), and Allen (1939).

Obit: Funeral services for Jewel Chastain will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Mills funeral chapel with Dr. Dick House officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens cemetery under the direction of Mills Funeral Home. Chastain, 82, of 1620 South Ninth Street, McAlester, died Tuesday at McAlester Regional Hospital. He was a retired service station operator. Pallbearers will be Harold Gene Stovall, Kermit Lynn Peters, Edward D. Long and Robert G. Long. Honoraries: Mark Graves, Ed Long, Stephen Evins, Kermit Peters, Bruford Peters and Glenn Peters. Chastain was born Jan. 4, 1904 at Prescott, Ark. He and Bernice were married on Dec. 27, 1924 at Broken Bow. Prior to moving to McAlester fives years ago, he and his wife were long time residents of Lincoln, NE. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Bernice of the home; three sons, William J. Chastain of Houston, Tex. James A. Chastain of Denton, Tex. and Allen C. Chastain of Bedford, NJ, a brother Luther Chastain of Minneapolis, Minn.; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Jewel Chastain, 8th generation of Chastains in the U.S.), was a direct descendant of Pierre Chastain (1659-1728) who came to the U.S. in 1700, landing near the mouth of the James River near present day Richmond, VA. See Pierre Memorial #20353590
