Biography:

James Eaton, son of Jonathan Eaton (born April 23, 1668; died January 20, 1723) was born in Haverhill, MA, Mar. 9, 1697.  When six days old he was concealed with his mother in a swamp, and thus escaped the fate of being killed by Indians.  His mother died from exposure thirteen months afterwards.  He was very feeble for many years but finally attained good powers of body and mind.  He married Mrs. Rachell (Kimball) Ayer, widow of Samuel Ayer, Jr. of Haverhill, on June 13, 1728, and took possession of the "new house", which his father at death had left unfinished.  Here on the old place, purchased of Rev. Nathaniel Ward of Ipswich by John Eaton 1st, James and Rachel Eaton lived together till separated by death.  He died on March 18, 1773 according to the inscription on an old [grave] stone, a little inclined with age, in a yard a little north of his residence in the West Parish.

("Genealogical and Biographical History of the Eaton Families" by Nellie Zada Rice Molyneux, Published in 1911 by C. W. Bardeen, page 389.)

Gravesite Details

Marker could not be found by FAG member, though a book about the Eatons puts James and Rachel Eaton at "West Parish". Same member wrote me and said could also mean "Second West Parish Cemetery" or "Hilldale Cemetery"
