WALKER: Passed away at the residence, 922 Carrie Street, January 21, 1944. Mr. John Walker Jr. He was survived by one dauther Mrs. Margaret Wills; three grandaughters, Mrs. Pinkey Turner, Mrs. Eva Drayton and Mrs. Louise Hare; two grandsons, Freddie Butler and Arthur Drayton; a niece, Mrs. MoDora Key; five nephews and other relatives. Funeral services today at 4:30 p.m. from Thankful Baptist church. Rev. M J Sherard officiating. Interment, Cedar Grove Cemetery. Dent's Undertaking Establishment.

John Walker, One of the best known men in Augusta, Georgia, known far and near for his long years as an expert caterer. John has a record of which any chef would be proud to have. } A Few weeks ago he rounded out his 82'nd Birthday, and having been born in Richmond County, he has spent his entire life in Augusta. He is universally known and respected by both race here.
Years ago, in the good old days of the town, the days when the Commercial Club was in it hey day, a club that was the pride of the city's big aristocrats, a place frequented by outstanding citizens and high dignitaries from all sections of the country, John Walker was caterer and bar-tender, and was well known by many of the country's illustrious.
With the passing of the Commercial Club, he later was employed by prominent families, and on other special occassions when such expert service was needed. His last permanent employment was with the late Dr.H. H, Land. Since then the veteran caterer has been called on to prepare special feasts, which only he is able of doing. } But perhaps the greatest feat in the career of John Walker as a chef,came in 1912, when President William Howard Taft came to Augusta to lay the cornerstone of the Butt Memorial Bridge, as amemorial to Major Archibald W. Butt, hero of the Titantic, who was military aide to the President at the time of the tragedy.
President Taft was entertained at the Home of Mayor Thomas Barrett Sr., and it was John Walker who prepared the dinner that day, attended by many notables. As a matter of fact, Mayor Barrett had Walker go to Washington and accompany the President here, to prepare his meals enroute to Augusta.
One of the oldest members of Thankful Baptist Church, John Walker is senior deacon. He has served the church as deacon for 67 years. For years his work in the church has been to prepare the Communion.
