St. George, UT - Clara Cannon Caudill Cottam, 92, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2010 in St. George, Utah. She was born on November 10, 1917 in St. George to Bayard and Aurora Jane Bracken (Roie) Cannon. She was the third of five children. She had two older brothers and two younger brothers. She grew up in Central, (Washington County) and went to school in a one room school house until she was in the 7th grade. She then attended school in St. George and Veyo. She attended one year of high school in Fillmore, Utah, living with her aunt and uncle in Meadow, Utah.

She married Estill Caudill in 1936. They had one daughter born to them, Joyce. Estill was killed in a mine accident in Nelson, Nevada in 1941. Clara came back to St. George and went to Dixie College. She was such a good student in shorthand, accounting and business that Matthew Bentley talked her into working for the City of St. George which was a blessing in her life. She worked for the city for 35 years, twenty in the Utility Department and fifteen as the St. George City Treasurer. Clara retired when she was 62 years old and Mayor Grey Larkin declared that day as "CLARA COTTAM DAY".

In 1946 she married Karl Cottam and they had one daughter, Mary Jane. She and Karl were sealed in the St. George Temple on April 1, 1961. She was very active in the American Legion Organization. She served as the state secretary of the Utah League of Cities, Treasurer of the Central Cemetery for many years and as secretary in every organization of the church both on a ward and stake basis. She and Karl served in the Florida Ft. Lauderdale Mission in 1982-83. She was a faithful member of the church, always willing to help anyone in need and had a strong testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ. She served many years as a "Pink Lady" and loved working in the Jubilee of Trees annual fund drive. She loved to go fishing and camping and passed that love on to many of her grandchildren whom she loved dearly. She was a marvelous cook and her home was always open to everyone. She was a sweet, immaculate lady. She belonged to a sewing club for many years. She and Karl traveled extensively.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, brothers-John, Max and Wayne, son-in-law, William C. Christy, grandson, Matthew William Christy and one great-grandson, Kolby Dylan Jones.
