Orin was a son of Hooker and Eleanor (Lovell) Smith. He married Phebe Ann Rice 19 June 1956 in Stevens Point by Phebe's uncle who was Justice of the Peace.

Phebe died in 1871 leaving 3 small boys, and Orin died in 1873 at which time her parents, William & Hannah (Fleming) Rice took guardianship of the boys, sold Orin's land, and moved to Iowa.

As it's undocumented where Orin is buried, we are creating a memorial here by his wife to clarify that. Lower Amherst, aka Fleming Family Cemetery, is a privately owned cemetery founded by Phebe's grandfather Thomas Fleming, and there is no record in the files that Orin is buried here.
