Waynesville – Charles "Charlie" Edwin Brooks, age 77, of Conner Ridge Road, died Friday, July 22, 2005 at his residence.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Haywood County. He was the son of the late Walter Lee Brooks and Carrie Conner Brooks Queen. He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Brooks; a grandson, Nathaniel Parton; and three brothers, Clyde, James Jr., and Melvin Queen. He was a United States Marine Veteran and self-employed owner and operator of a paving company. He shared a love of making music and was an avid fan of NASCAR racing.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-four years, Rebecca Burgess Brooks; ten daughters, Jean Bumgarner of Canton, Carrie Craymer and her husband, Pete, of Hickory, Wanda Brooks of Waynesville, Gloria Trull and Brenda Clark, both of Hickory, Lynn Roberts and her husband, Dale, of Waynesville, Joan Maier and her husband, Bob, of Canton, Tonya Rich, Jenny Parton and her husband, Jeremiah, and Christen Brooks all of Waynesville; three sons, Charles O. Brooks and his wife, Kristen, of Sylva, Thomas Jones and his wife, Patti, of Hickory, and Danny Brooks of Waynesville; two sisters, Louise Snyder of Waynesville, Alpha Willis and her husband, Harold, of Hendersonville; four brothers, Arthur Brooks and his wife, Edna, of Waynesville, Sam Brooks and his wife, Alice, of New York, Gerald Queen and his wife, Betty, of Canton, Carl Queen and his wife, Thenia, of Waynesville; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Homes and Cremation Services with Reverend Dale Roberts, Reverend Wright Spears and Reverend Raymond Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2005 at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Jeremiah Parton, Preston Roberts, Hunter Brooks, Charles Brooks, Danny Joe Stites, Ray Bumgarner, Lee Brooks, and Raymond Brooks.
