Hazel Irene Green, a Cook resident died October 12, 1996 in Hood River at the age of 88. Mrs. Green was born in Gravity, Iowa to Elsie (Laird) and Nathan Sexton. She grew up in Iowa and she met and married James Carl Green Feb. 16, 1928. They lived on a farm in Iowa. The Greens moved permanently in 1948 and raised their family in Skamania County. After her children were grown, Mrs. Green worked as a school cook and also at Diamond Fruit Cannery in Hood River. She was a member of the Willard Woman's Club, loved quilting and crocheting, winning first prize for her crocheted table cloth at the county fair. Her family and friends were all recipients of her handwork. Mrs. Green is survived by her husband James, sons of Robert Green, Blockton, Iowa; Delbert Green, Underwood and Tom Green, Appleton; Glen Green, Cook; daughters Ruth Patterson, Lyle and Barbara Schwab, Willard; sister Lorna Hardisty, White Salmon, as well as 20 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in White Salmon, with Pastor Gerald Sellsted officiating. Interment will be at Chris Zada Cemetery in Underwood. Gardner Funeral Home was in charge of all the arrangements.
