Sgt. Jonathan J. Richardson (Dunigan) age 24 was born Dec. 24, 1985. He died on March 9, 2010 in Afghanistan in the line of duty with the U.S. Army.
Sergeant Jonathan J. Richardson, 24, of Bald Knob, Ark., died when attacked by a suicide bomber who was an Afghanistan Border Police officer in Khowst Province, Afghanistan. Sgt. Richardson and his fellow soldiers were warming themselves at a fire on the American side of the base when the attack occurred. Also killed in the attack was PFC. Jason Kropat.
He was a fire support specialist assigned to C Company, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. Richardson joined the Army in June 2006 and arrived at Fort Campbell in January 2007. His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal; Army Good Conduct Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Ribbon; and Weapons Qualification, M4, expert. He was awarded the Meritorius Service Medal for his work in Iraq and Afghanistan. Jonathan also earned his Combat Badge with distinction in Afghanistan.
He is survived by his loving wife and companion Rachel; his parents Sharon and James Dunigan; his brother Jason Dunigan and sister Jasmine; his grandmother Edna Martin and grandmother Patsy Dunigan. He is preceded in death by his grandfathers Jared Cobb and Linuel Dunigan. Jonathan has many loved ones that include his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will miss him greatly.
Jonathan was a standout football player at Bald Knob High School. He graudated with a 4.0 avg and worked for Colton's Steakhouse before entering the Army. The Army was a choice he made after a long and very well thought out process. He choose to be a 13-F (Fister) even before joining the Army. His Army brothers consider him a top solider. His officers stated Jonathan was not one of the best but the best at what he did in the 101st Airborne.
Most people know Jonathan as Jonathan Dunigan as he used that name all through his school years preferring it to Richardson. His nick name in High School was Half-Metal.
