Stella L. Ward, 99, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Mediapolis, died Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.
Born June 16, 1910, in Des Moines County, she was the daughter of Albert and Elsie McCorkle Hoambrecker. On Aug. 9, 1930, she married Arthur A. Ward in Burlington.
Mrs. Ward farmed with her husband. She was a member of Mediapolis First Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School superintendent, as a teacher and in the missionary circle. She also was a member of the Des Moines County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed gardening, canning, milking cows and raising chickens.
Survivors include one daughter, Arlene Wright of Mount Pleasant; one granddaughter; one brother, Roger Hoambrecker of Burlington; and nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers and one half sister.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where family will receive friends.
The funeral for Mrs. Ward will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, with the Rev. Dan Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington.
Memorials have been established for the First Baptist Church of Mediapolis and Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service.
