The Mystery man:
George Patten, it is not of certain that he was born in Maryland. Yes, we can find him in the 1850 census in Indiana living with his daughter Ruth, that states he was born in Maryland, yet his daughter Ruth will claim otherwise through-out census. George married Catherine Marker in Frederick County Maryland 17 Dec. 1806, marriage records of Maryland.
According to the History Of Montgomery County Ohio Jefferson Twp. written by W.H. Beers and Company 1882
George and Catherine (Marker) Patten settled in the eastern part of the twp in the year 1819, having purchased land from David Bowman.
It is also known that George was a tobacco farmer, as when George's son Uriah Patten moved to Defiance County Ohio, he brought with him a tobacco press that was later sold. The tobacco press sat in front of the Leach repair shop in Jewell, Ohio untill it was given to the Defiance County Historical Society. This information was provided by my cousin Phyllis (Peter) Osmun. who has been working on the Patten ancestry since she was a teenage girl, and has shared so much info and so many pictures of the Uriah Patten family with me that she deserves to be credited in all my work.
Phyllis and I believe the children of George and Catherine (Marker) Patten are as follows:
Lewis Patten
George Patten Jr
Eli
Samuel
Catherine
Naomi
Ruth Barbara
Uriah
Leighnix
Misty Pinette

I have been hearing from many researchers over this George Patten stating that he was born in Maryland. I have no documentation proving this, only a 1850 census record, yet his daughter Ruth claims otherwise throughout her census records. I also have heard that he died in Montgomery County Ohio. I also have no documentation for this. His last known residency was in Indiana 1850 census record, living with his daughter Ruth. I have not found a will yet to provide documentation of who his children were. Just like if you look and read the Cemetery records for his wife, Catherine Marker, the cemetery book claims she was a widow when she died! How can this be if she died 1st how can she be a widow??
