Son of Horace and Martha Catlin, of Noble Township, Wabash County, Indiana. Siblings: Barbara, Mary, Clara, Louisa and William.

Enlisted as a Private on 1 January 1864 in Company F, 2nd Cavalry Regiment Indiana at Wabash, Indiana. Mustered Out Company F, 2nd Cavalry Regiment Indiana on 22 July 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

Franklin Catlin went out as a recruit in Company F, Second Cavalry, on the 1st of January 1864. Came home and died of consumption (before 1871).

1870: Residing w widowed mother Noble Twsp, Wabash County, Indiana. Single (age 32). Occupation: Laborer.

Married Amelia Hibbard on 16 July 1871 in Wabash County, Indiana.
