C. H. WYCKOFF DIED SATURDAY AFTER A STROKE
PIONEER RESIDENT LIVED IN RED OAK FOR SIXTY YEARS
Funeral services were held this afternoon for C. H. Wyckoff, 71, a resident of Red Oak for sixty years, who died at his home, 108 Grimes Street, Saturday morning at 1:40 o'clock following a stoke of apoplexy. The services were in charge of Rev. Ira E. Carney, pastor of the Christian Church, of which he was a member. Serving as pall bearers were W. A. Focht, W. L. Wells, Carl Remley, Charles A. Hughes, E. R. Wood, and Frank Sell of Ava, Missouri. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery.
Cyrus Haney Wyckoff was born in Illinois, August 31, 1858, a son of Samuel and Martha Figg Wyckoff. He came to Red Oak with his parents when but a boy, making the trip from Illinois in a covered wagon, the trip taking seventeen days. He was twice married, his first marriage being to Elizabeth Boner in Red Oak on June 7, 1898. For many years he was retired on pension. Monday night he was taken ill and on Friday he suffered a stroke. He never regained consciousness after the stroke and died Saturday.
Besides his widow, he is survived by two children by his first marriage , William Webb Wyckoff of Memphis, Tennessee, and Roy B. Wyckoff of Red Oak, Iowa and the following children by his last marriage, Mrs. B. L. Boyer of Essex, Iowa; Lee and Hugh Wyckoff at home, and three grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters also survive; Charle Wyckoff of Villisca, Harry of Parker Washington, Mrs. Sadie Daugherty of Lafayette, Illinois and Mrs. Martin Gleason of Riverton, Robert Wyckoff, a brother, died here eight years ago.
Besides being a member of the Christian Church, Mr. Wyckoff was a member of the Modern Woodmen Lodge and the Railway Veteran's Association.
