Followed his uncle, David Ramsay, to South Carolina.
Listed as Surgeon, 29 Regiment, 7 Brigade of the SC Militia in 1809; Physician General of the Militia in 1816
"Departed this life on the 10th ultimo, in the 60th year of his age, Dr John Ramsay, of St Paul's parish. In the memorable contest for political supremacy in the year 1798, he was an active and efficient supporter of Mr Jefferson's pretensions to the presidency."
