Richard LaRue
Richard Larue was born near Wooster, Ohio, September 15, 1834, and died at his home, in Iowa Twp., Cedar County, Oct. 20, 1905, aged 71 yrs., 1 month and 5 days.
He came with his parents from Ohio to this township when only eight years old, thus being 63 years a resident of this county. This county was very new when he came here, wild game, including deer, etc., was plentiful. He was in a real true sense one of the pioneers of this county. In the forties of the last century he started for California during the gold fever excitement of those days. But he went no farther than Pike's Peak, returning to Kansas where he bought a farm. Soon after this he was taken with typhoid fever and when recovered sufficiently he returned to this county where he has resided continuously ever since.
Richard Larue was married to Mary Plymeseer, Oct. 4, 1860. To this union were born three children, two girls and one boy, the son dying in infancy. On January 30, 1868 he was married to Amanda White. One daughter was born to them. On November 20, 1901 he was married to Lottie Savacool. There remain to mourn their loss a wife, and three daughters, Mrs. Emma Force of Lisbon, Mary A. Pike of Nichols and Etta May Wilkinson of Des Moines, with many other relatives and friends.
He was converted to Christianity in 1870 in connection with a special meeting held at the Bethel Free Baptist church and united with the same church at that time and remained with said church till death.
The funeral was preached by Rev. E. H. Turner of Tipton, Ia. Text 2 Cor. 5:1
