Donna Clara Snyder Scaggs went home to be with her Savior at 9:48 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in Nampa at the Trinity of Holly Care Center. Donna was born to Harmon and Catherine Louise Schlader Snyder in Kamiah on April 17, 1931. Donna's grandmother, Clara Snyder, was the midwife.

Donna moved with her family to the Fraser Prairie near Weippe. Donna graduated from high school in Weippe in 1948 and was an excellent varsity basketball player for four years, and excelled in academics and music. She went to the North Idaho College of Education (now Lewis-Clark State College) in Lewiston and received her teaching certificate in 1950. She began teaching in Vale, Ore., in the fall of that year.

She met her husband Leroy in Vale and the couple moved to Caldwell in 1952 after the birth of a daughter. The young family moved to Clarkston, and a daughter and son were born before moving to Lewiston. Donna and Leroy moved up to Weippe, where they operated the Standard Oil Gas Station. They moved a year later to Orofino, where Donna taught grade school. Her family of five moved to Grangeville, where she taught fourth grade before moving back to Lewiston in 1963. She began teaching in the Tammany School District and added a son to the family in 1965. She was also an elected officer of the State Teachers Organization.

The family moved to Spokane in 1967 and opened their business, Scaggs Tire Center. Les Schwab bought that business and the family moved to Davenport, Wash., where they continued in the tire business. She continued to be involved in her children's lives, hosting many church and social events that her children were involved in. Donna and Leroy moved to Portland, Ore., in 1974 and then back to Lewiston. Her marriage ended in divorce in 1977.

She worked for St. Joseph Hospital and the Clarkston School District. Donna was active in membership in the Assemblies of God churches in every community she lived in. Donna was a great daughter, she lived in Clarkston to stay close and care for her parents, who passed away in 1992. She was active in the Clarkston community, working for the school district and St. Vincent de Paul until her retirement.

She is survived by her children: two daughters, Debbie and husband Richard of Portland, and Pam White and husband Steve of Nampa two sons, Steve Scaggs and wife Kim of Clarkston, and David Scaggs and wife Sharon of Nampa grandchildren, Angel Miller and husband Matt of Portland, Aaron Vercruysse and wife Chris of Sierra Madre, Calif., Hillary Vercruysse of Gresham, Ore., Autumn Short and husband Marty of Nampa, Kaelee Scaggs of Pasco, Ryan Scaggs of Clarkston, Brittany Scaggs of Boise and Stephanie Scaggs of Nampa great-grandchildren Lincoln, Tyus, Canaan, Kaiden and Lexi and brother Glen Snyder of Clarkston.

Donna was preceded in death by her older brother, Dean Snyder, who passed away in 2003.

Donna would want her friends and family of Snyders and Schladers to attend her memorial service at Abundant Life Church, 1483 16th Ave., Clarkston.
